1. Know What Goes in the Bin
Most curbside programs accept:
-
Paper and cardboard
-
Aluminum and steel cans
-
Plastic bottles and containers
-
Glass bottles and jars
Always check your local guidelines to be sure.
2. Empty, Clean, and Dry
-
Rinse out food and drink containers
-
Remove excess food from boxes and jars
-
Let items dry before placing them in the bin
Dirty recyclables can contaminate the entire load.
3. Don’t “Wishcycle”
If you’re not sure an item is recyclable, don’t toss it in the bin just hoping it is.
When in doubt, throw it out or check local rules first.
4. Flatten Cardboard
Break down boxes to save space in your cart and make collection easier.
5. Keep Plastic Bags Out
Plastic bags and film should not go in most curbside recycling bins.
Take them to designated store drop-off locations if accepted.
6. Compost When You Can
Food scraps and yard waste don’t belong in recycling bins. Composting keeps valuable materials out of landfills.
7. Recycle Special Items Separately
Items like batteries, electronics, paint, and motor oil require special drop-off locations.
8. Reduce & Reuse First
The best recycling tip is to create less waste:
-
Use reusable bags and bottles
-
Choose products with less packaging
-
Donate usable items
🌎 Remember:
Small actions add up. Recycling correctly helps keep Bristol clean, reduces landfill waste, and protects our environment.
